Although the London Philharmonic Orchestra has come to the NCPA for many times, this concert marks the NCPA debut of its principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski. Since he assumed the position in 2007, Jurowski has spent over ten years with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and has established tacit cooperation.

The concert kicked off with Richard Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, which portrayed vividly the misadventures and pranks of Till Eulenspiegela with music. Then violinist Julia Fischer joined in the performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor. As the bowstring moved, gorgeous, colourful timbre and romantic, beautiful ambience echoed to the orchestra’s performance, showing Julia Fischer’s superb performing skills and original insights on the music.

The second half of the concert began with Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Composed when Brahms spent his holidays by a picturesque lake in Austria in the summer of 1877, this symphony is invested with something poetic and bucolic. Under Jurowski’s accurate control, the orchestra made this symphony sound warm and vigorous. From the “lingering light of the setting sun” to the “orgiastic dancing”, the audience felt intoxicated by the “pastoral view” of music created by the composer.
