57 Event Cinema Titles to be Released in late 2018 New Live Screening Series Creates Unique Experience for Arts Fans in China

On the third anniversary since the launch of Theatre Live Screening series in 2015, Beijing ATW Culture Media Co., Ltd. , the leading distributor in China for event cinema, announces 57 titles, covering theatre, opera, ballet and even exhibition, to be released in late 2018.


 

Highlights include Bridge Theatre’s immersive revival production of Julies Caesar featuring Ben Wishaw’s debut (Perfume, Cloud Atlas, Paddington) in NT Live, Olivier Award-winning play Hangmen written by Academy Award, Golden Globe and Olivier Award winner Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Pillowman), RSC’s latest revival production of Macbeth featuring the Doctor Who’s star Christopher Eccleston, five-star Tony Award-winning musical production of An American in Paris choreographed by multiple award winner Christopher Wheeldon, English National Ballet’s reimagined Giselle choreographed by Akram Khan and designed by Academy Award winner Tim Yip, Matthew Bourne’s new interpretation of Cinderella set in London during the World War II, the lavish multi-million dollar music and  ice-skating extravaganza Intimissimi on Ice: A Legend of Beauty starring Italian artist Andrea Bocelli and the finest Olympic-champion skaters from around the world, Stage Russia’s production of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters with a cast who only communicate in sign language, and Comédie-Française’s award-winning production of Cyrano de Bergerac.



 

Moreover, the previously announced Royal Opera House and Bolshoi Ballet in Cinema program and both exhibition documentaries Hokusai from British Museum and V&A’s David Bowie is will continue. Popular titles including Hamlet, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, No Man’s Land, Amadeus and Richard II will return to the program soon.

 

Besides the new titles announced, a new brand called New Live is announced on purpose to cover the growing programming which has expanded beyond theatre and into other arts forms and other countries besides UK. Although it’s never really live, it is a new way to share the best live experience with more audience in this territory.


Since the launch of theatre live program supported by British Council in 2015 through ATW Culture in collaboration with international leading distributors of event cinema in theatre including National Theatre, Trafalgar Releasing, More2Screen and Pathé Live, 76 titles in total from multiple brands in this area like National Theatre Live, Royal Shakespeare Company, BroadwayHD, Stage Russia and so on, have been shown to more than 240,000 audience from 24 cities in 58 venues over the mainland China, Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan with more than 2000 screenings. Among them, 16 titles from Shakespeare’s Globe have been online through iQiyi Education to facilitate the audience with easier access to the best theatrical content.
