Maestro Mehta conducts talented performers’ performance of Verdi’s classic Falstaff

On December 3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th, the co-production of the NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts) and Wiener Staatsoper Falstaff will be showcased in Beijing. On November 9th, a press conference was held for the opera Falstaff, attended by the vice president of the NCPA ZHAO Tiechun and the singers that would play leading roles, including Roberto de Candia, Rachele Stanisci, Filippo Polinelli, Giulia Semenzato, SHI Yijie, Anna Maria Chiuri and Lily Jørsyad. The singers had interpreted the roles played by them.

The NCPA vice president ZHAO Tiechun said, “It’s NCPA’s important strategy to cooperate with global theatres in opera production. As the NCPA communicates and collaborates with its international counterparts, its production team has accumulated valuable experiences. In the last ten years, the NCPA has produced numerous operas in collaboration with many world-class art institutions, such as the Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Regio di Parma, Mariinsky Theatre, Royal Opera House and Metropolitan Opera House.”

This version of Falstaff is produced under the direction of the famous opera director David McVicar and his world-renowned team. From the noisy tavern to the spacious hall and to quiet Windsor Park, every living scene in the medieval England is presented on stage by director David McVicar. The exquisitely dressed-up characters also look very much like prototypes. This is the maestro Zubin Mehta’s second time to get involved with the NCPA’s opera production after he conducted the performance of Aida successfully.
